DAVID HITE
MOUTHPIECES |
PREMIERE
RANGE The modestly priced PREMIERE
mouthpiece line is designed and produced to meet the highest professional
standards. Although marketed as student line mouthpieces, PREMIERES are used by
many professionals because of their rich sound and flexibility. These
mouthpieces are extremely popular as "step-up" mouthpieces for players who
would benefit from a better mouthpiece but are put off by the higher
prices
PREMIERE mouthpieces are extremely reed friendly. Because they
do not require excessive biting or force of air to make them play, they have a
profound influence on the development of an ideal embouchure.
- PREMIERE by HITE
mouthpieces are made of plastic -- the same type material used in many older
professional mouthpieces. A super tough mouthpiece tooth patch is supplied with
each mouthpiece to help control teeth wear and improve the players auditory
perception.
- Each PREMIERE
mouthpiece is individually play-tested and adjusted to the highest performance
standards.

PREMIERE Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
Facing: Medium length, .043" tip |
Produced in one
medium preferred facing, the PREMIERE clarinet mouthpiece line is hand finished
to the highest professional standards, much more accurately than higher priced
production finished mouthpieces. The acoustically efficient design results in a
pleasant, resonant sound produced without excessive physical effort. The medium
facing is well suited to a Vandoren No. 3 (or comparable) reed. |
PREMIERE Alto Saxophone
Mouthpiece Facing: Medium length, .069" tip
(comparable to a C** facing)
PREMIERE Tenor Saxophone
Mouthpiece Facing: Medium length, .090"
tip
The efficiency of
the facing design and the accuracy of the finishing make PREMIERE Alto and
Tenor Saxophone mouthpieces ideal all around mouthpieces. They are extremely
versatile, capable of producing a variety of tonal colors for a variety of
musical styles. Each model is produced with one preferred facing.
Medium or medium hard
reeds cut with a strong center and thinner sides (such as the Rico Jazz Select,
LaVoz or Vandoren Java) work well with the overall mouthpiece and facing
design. |

J & D Hite Bb clarinet
mouthpieces The four standard
models in the J & D HITE Bb clarinet mouthpiece
line have proven to be those most preferred, most versatile and most "user
friendly". The facings have been designed in conjunction with the interior
contours and dimensions for optimum results. |
|
|
- Model
D
Facing: Medium length, .041" tip
Our "D"
model mouthpiece is the original (ca. 1980) HITE interior design which is
closely aligned with the traditional classic orchestral facing. The mouthpiece
balances well with a Vandoren No. 4 or Vandoren V-12 No. 3-1/2 reed (or
comparable). Compared to the "M41" model which has the identical facing, the
"D" internal dimensions tend to produce a darker, rounder tonal character.
|
|
- Model
M (formally M41)
Facing: Medium length, .041" tip
The core
design for the "M" model mouthpiece was developed in response to orchestral
players who want a livelier sound for projection and resonance in large concert
halls. The altissimo (third register) is extremely stable, full-bodied and
accessible. The bore and channel contours tend toward a leaner, more centered
sound when compared to the "D" model which has the same facing measurements.

|
- Model J
Facing: Medium length, .043" tip
The "J"
model mouthpiece is the best choice for players who prefer a somewhat softer
Vandoren No. 3 type reed and are more comfortable with greater amplitude of
reed vibration at the tip. This model may prove to be more comfortable for
higher elevation locales and is usually the model preferred by saxophonists who
are doubling on clarinet. |
|
- Model
H (formally ML41)
Facing: long length, .041" tip
The "H"
model is new to the J&D HITE line as of March 2000. Using newly designed
chamber and bore dimensions, the extra facing length on the "H" model functions
well with thicker cut reeds made of less dense cane such as the Vandoren
V-12's. The interior design and facing length can add extra depth to the sound,
especially for more advanced experienced players. |

J & D Hite
Eb, Alto and Bass clarinet mouthpieces |
|
|
- J
& D Hite Eb Clarinet Mouthpiece
Facing:
Medium length, .041" tip
The HITE Eb clarinet mouthpiece is
extremely popular because of its tonal sweetness which makes it sound agreeable
and blend nicely. Unlike many Eb mouthpieces which go
flat, the HITE plays in tune all the way up to high G with standard fingerings.
The facing makes it an easy double with the Bb
clarinet. |
|
|
- J
& D Hite Basset Horn/Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece
Facings: One
preferred facing: Medium length, .055" tip
Often known as "the ill wind that blows no good," the alto clarinet
has earned a bad reputation as sounding thin, fuzzy and weak. To improve this
malady, the HITE mouthpiece has a modified channel and facing design which
gives a full, golden-voiced alto tone that is truly attractive. The table is
widened to accept an alto saxophone reed. Medium strength Vandoren Java cuts
work well. This model is also the perfect compliment to the alto clarinet style
basset horn. |

|
- J
& D Hite Bass Clarinet Mouthpiece
Facings: Medium length, .068"
tip
The internal design of the HITE bass clarinet mouthpiece is unique
in bringing a beautiful focus to the sound, improving the usual fluffy middle B
and giving good response to the typically weak upper register G. The facing has
found great favor among orchestral bass clarinetists and is highly compatible
with available reeds. With this mouthpiece, the bass clarinet is a joy to play
and an easy double to learn. |

David Hite Professional Saxophone
Mouthpieces |
The balance of carefully designed
and produced dimensions and facings gives HITE mouthpieces their extreme
flexibility, superior intonation patterns and comfort through out the entire
range of the instrument, at all dynamic levels.
J&D Hite
professional model mouthpieces are made of top quality hard rubber and are
personally hand-finished and tested to ensure consistency and playability. All
J & D Hite professional models come with J & D HITE ligature and
plastic cap. |

|
|
J &
D Hite Soprano Saxophone Mouthpiece Facings: One preferred facing:
Medium short, .052" tip
The design of the Soprano Saxophone mouthpiece is similar to the
French square throat style except that the square corners have been rounded. A
longer bead at the back and lean sides cut down on the bulk of the mouthpiece.
In response to players who have requested good low register response as well as
an easy high register F and F#, we have developed a shorter, slightly more open
facing. The refinement of the facing in both the table and the rails enhances
the overall performance and playability.

|
|
J &
D Hite "Commercial" Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece Facings: One preferred
facing: Medium long, .070" tip (comparable to a Meyer 6)
The "Commercial" alto mouthpiece is designed for general commercial
playing -- stage bands, recording studios, show orchestras and jazz. Because of
its inherent flexibility many players find it to be an ideal "cross-over"
mouthpiece, suitable for both classic and popular styles. This model is
especially attractive to flute and clarinet doublers who appreciate being able
to play without excessive embouchure pressure.
This standard facing
works well with Rico Jazz Select medium, LaVoz medium hard or Vandoren Java
medium reeds. With the correctly balanced reed -- one with a good strong center
and thinner, more vibrant sides -- this facing allows for plenty of power for
lead players as well as softer dynamics for more delicate passages.

J &
D Hite Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece Facings: One preferred facing: Medium
length, .095" tip (comparable to an Otto Link 6*)
The unique design of the Tenor mouthpiece features a moderately high
baffle to give color and strength while avoiding a thin, edgy, "laser beam"
sound. You can blend with a section, and also stand up and be heard! The
channel size results in a nicely centered sound with a clear middle D. As with
the other Saxophone mouthpieces, doublers will appreciate the power and
flexibility they can achieve without excessive embouchure pressure -- and
without destroying their flute embouchures.
Medium hard reeds (LaVoz,
Rico Jazz Select or Vandoren Java cuts) work well on the standard tenor facing.

|
|
J &
D Hite Baritone Saxophone Mouthpiece Facings: One preferred facing:
Medium length, .105" tip
The Baritone mouthpiece is recommended for a variety of playing
situations: concert and stage bands, sax quartets, studios and show orchestras.
It has a flat, modestly raised baffle. The table is angled in such a way that
the tip of the reed is centered on the bore of the mouthpiece. This improved
design gives the bari a rich lean sound rather than the old style spread, heavy
tone. Both high and low registers are enhanced, and tonal flexibility is
facilitated.
Medium strength reeds with good center and vibrant tip and
sides (LaVoz type cut) work well with the facing and internal dimensions of the
mouthpiece. |
